Department of Mechanical Engineering

After Mersin University had been founded in 1992, the Department of Mechanical Engineering started undergraduate and graduate (MSc degree) education in the 1994-1995 academic year. Laboratories and workshops were opened to student’s use in the academic year of 2005-2006. The department started doctoral education in the scope of the joint program with the Çukurova University in the spring semester of 2014-2015. Our department accepts 60 undergraduate students who are selected by the National University Entrance Exam annually. There are currently about 435 students studying at Mechanical Engineering Department, 43 of them are female students and 392 of them are male students.  At the graduate program, the department has 60 students, 56 of them are M.Sci.  students and 4 of them  are Ph.D students. As of 2015-2016 academic year, approximately 649 students graduated from undergraduate program of Mechanical Engineering Department so far. Furtermore, 50 Higher Engineers (M.Sci.) graduated from graduate program.

Mechanical Engineering Department gives education based on basic engineering, research and development, material science, design, computer-aided design and manufacturing, drawing techniques, manufacturing methods, control systems, hydraulic machines, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, automotive. Additionally, the department tries to provide students entrepreneurship, creativity and ability of following technological development.

The objective of Mechanical Engineering department is to take part in the excellent higher education-research institutions of our country.

Education aims at undergraduate program:

“The aim of department is to make engineers who carry out the engineering studies increasing competitive capacity of the national organizations, can design by associating theoretical knowledge to engineering applications, have ability to access information, to follow developments in science and technology and to educate himself/herself, have self confidence, awareness of professional and ethical responsibility.”

Undergraduate program of Mechanical Engineering Department is accredited from 1 May 2012 to 30 September 2017 by MÜDEK (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs) and ENAEE (European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education).
