Mersin University’s Mechanical Engineering department has consistently achieved full occupancy over the last three years, successfully filling all its quotas. Although the quota, which was 72 in 2022 and 2023, was increased to 77 in 2024, there was no decline in demand; on the contrary, interest in the program continued to grow. This indicates that the program has maintained its appeal and desirability among applicants.
The increase in the number of applicants who preferred the program is one of the most concrete indicators of the department’s rising popularity. The number of preferences, which was 961 in 2022, reached 1,243 in 2023 and 1,313 in 2024. The approximately 37% increase over these three years shows that the department’s recognition and attractiveness have strengthened both regionally and nationwide.
The average preference rank also supports this positive picture. The average rank, which was 11.4 in 2022, decreased to 10.9 in 2023 and to 10.8 in 2024, indicating that applicants are placing Mersin University Mechanical Engineering higher on their lists. This demonstrates not only an increase in the number of applicants, but also that the department has become a priority target in the eyes of candidates.
Taken together, all these data suggest that Mersin University Mechanical Engineering has gained strong momentum in recent years in terms of both desirability and placement success, increased its brand value, and reached a level of demand that can easily accommodate even quota increases.
