Department of Painting
General Information
Mersin University's Faculty of Fine Arts was established pursuant to Law No. 3837 dated July 3, 1992. The Department of Painting, one of the 10 departments included in the founding law, began its education and training activities in the 1993–1994 academic year with a quota of 20 students.
The program aims to train aspiring artists who are experts in plastic arts and prepared for today's art environment, where the tools of painting defined by contemporary trends have evolved into a multidisciplinary structure. The program offers compulsory courses in applied painting, drawing, art theory, photography, and printmaking techniques to develop students' creative skills. Elective theoretical and workshop courses tailored to their talents and interests are also offered. This ensures that graduates can develop tailored solutions in their fields, leveraging their fundamental knowledge and specialized skills. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are awarded a bachelor's degree in Painting. The program is four years long and the language of instruction is Turkish. The department actively offers Master of Arts and Proficiency in Arts programs.
The faculty members of the Painting Department are: The department consists of a total of 11 faculty members: 4 Prof., 2 Associate Professors, 1 foreign national, 3 Lecturers, and 1 Research Assistant. The department accepts 40 students each year.
Mission
The aim of the Painting Department is to cultivate well-equipped aspiring artists, guided by contemporary trends. It provides the necessary art education to unleash their observation, analysis, and creativity. It aims to help students develop their artistic talents, grasp the dimension of artistic thinking, develop methodologies, and gain technical and professional competence.

The vision of the Painting Department is to cultivate successful aspiring artists at national and international levels in the field of art and to become a preferred program.

Objectives
The department's curriculum aims to develop students' creativity while also establishing the fundamental disciplines necessary for becoming an artist. Throughout the four-year program, students are taught theoretical courses that will lay the foundation for practical and intellectual development. Throughout the year, panels, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and similar events are organized by experts in the field to support the program. To cultivate aspiring artists with national and international competence in the field of art. To contribute to literature and artistic culture through the artistic work and activities of aspiring artists. To contribute to the dissemination and adoption of artistic culture throughout society.
Degrees to be Obtained
Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded a bachelor's degree in Painting.
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, have achieved a sufficient minimum score on the University Student Entrance Exam, and have passed the Special Talent Exam.
Graduate Employment
Graduates have employment opportunities as freelance artists, painters and art consultants in private and public institutions, academic staff in fine arts education and research institutions, and art educators in universities and colleges.
