Department of Turkish Language and Literature

DEPARTMENT OF TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature, one of the first departments of our university, was established in 1993, started to admit students in the 1993-1994 academic year and gave its first graduates in 1997.
Our department consists of “Turkish Language and Literature, Old Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, Modern Turkish Language and Modern Turkish Literature” departments. In addition to the undergraduate program in our department, where there are professors with doctoral level in each department, there is a master's program since 1993-1994 academic year and a doctorate program since 2019-2020 academic year.
In the undergraduate program, which has an education period of 4 years (8 semesters), a letter grade system is applied and the passing grade is 60 and above. In order to graduate from the department, students must complete at least 240 ECTS credits within the 4-year program.
The number of teaching staff in our department is 14, including 3 professor doctors, 7 associate professors, 1 doctoral faculty member, 1 lecturer doctor and 2 research assistants.
Aim of our Department and Program
To introduce Turkish Language and Literature products to the students and to examine these products in literary and philological terms.
To teach students the importance of Turkish Language and Literature products in the historical development of Turkish culture.
To train scientists, experts and teachers that our country needs academically and professionally.
To provide the necessary contribution to Turkish Language and Literature students and graduates to use the knowledge they have gained in national and international fields in an effective, efficient and forward-looking manner.
Diploma and Fields of Study
Graduates of the department are awarded a bachelor's degree in Turkish Language and Literature.
Graduates of the department can work as Turkish and Literature teachers in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, private schools and classrooms, provided that they receive pedagogical formation training.
They can also work as specialists in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, TRT, media organs and archives.
