Mersin University  Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was established in October 1998 and started its surgical activities.  Open heart surgery was started in 2000. Department of Cardiovascular Surgery gives the Education and Health Services with 3 proffesor and 1 associate professor.

Coronary bypass surgery for the treatment of coronary artery disease, heart valve surgery, surgical treatment of congenital heart disease, surgical treatment  of peripheral vascular  diseases, blockage of brain arteries (carotid) opening,  treatment of  thoracic and abdominal aneurysms (EVAR-TEVAR) and treatment of varicose veins are being performed in our department.
