ABOUT US

Our department was established in the year 2000. There are 3 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 2 Assistant Professor serving in the graduate programs of our Department. In addition there is 1 Research Assistant. Under the Mersin University Institute of Health Sciences, the Master's program started in September 2000, and the Doctoral program commenced in February 2004.

As the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, we continuously conduct research and develop advanced undergraduate and postgraduate education programs. In addition, we aim to enhance our international competitiveness by developing new methodological projects.

Biostatistics undergraduate and graduate courses are delivered in a hands-on manner at the Faculty of Medicine’s Computer Laboratory, which has a capacity of 48 computers. Moreover, the Biostatistics Research Laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine offers statistical consulting services for scientific research conducted in the fields of science and health. An average of 250 theses and scientific studies receive consulting services each year. As with our collaborative research in clinical sciences to date, our interdisciplinary studies contribute significantly to the visibility and acceptance of statistical science and research in international journals.

We also emphasize the importance of theoretical and applied statistical education at our university, highlighting the necessity of statistical checks to enhance the international competitiveness of scientific research. Our collaborative work to date has demonstrated that the use of statistical terminology at every stage—from planning to reporting—significantly strengthens the scientific quality of a study.

Our department conducts research in personalized medicine and develops decision support systems and user-friendly interfaces as part of these studies.

Since its establishment, 12 doctoral and 19 master’s students have graduated from our department. As of November 12, 2025, 2 doctoral and 2 master’s student are continuing their education.
