Department of Pharmacy Pharmacology
Department of Pharmacy Pharmacology, taking the place in Mersin University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Professional Sciences has started its activities on 10/09/2001. With the establishment of new departments within the Department of Professional Sciences, since 03/05/2007, it has been continuing the educations at the undergraduate and graduate level as Pharmacology Department. In the B and C blocks of the Mersin University Yenişehir Campus, which has a usage area of 1353 m², our education activities are carried out with the study rooms for faculty members and graduate students, student classrooms, and 3 research laboratories in a total area of 78 m2. These laboratories are equipped with the necessary machinery and equipment for the studies of septic and non-septic shock, inflammation, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and pain in separate environments, in particular regarding cardiovascular and renal system pharmacology.
In the Department of Pharmacy Pharmacology, 2 Professors (Prof. Dr. Bahar TUNCTAN and Prof. Dr. Seyhan SAHAN FIRAT) and 1 Asst. Prof. (Asst. Prof. Ayse Nihal SARI) are working at the undergraduate and graduate-level education and training. In addition, there are 2 Research Assistants (Res. Asst. Meryem TEMİZ REŞİTOĞLU and Res. Asst. Şefika Pınar ŞENOL) in progress to Doctorate Program. Our faculty members have received domestic and international training before and after the doctorate and have qualified academic qualifications in their fields. In addition to the education and training activities given by our faculty members, qualified scientific projects, international and national scientific studies and publications are produced.
In the Department of Pharmacy Pharmacology, graduate education is based on "Minimum Requirements in Postgraduate Pharmacology Education" determined by the Turkish Pharmacology Association. Currently, 3 students in the Doctorate Program (2 foreign student) and 9 students in the Master's Program (with thesis) are in progress to graduate education. Until today, 17 students from the Master Program (with thesis) graduated with the title of “Pharmacology Science Specialist” and 6 students from the Doctorate Program with the title of “Pharmacology Doctor”. Our graduate students have education and research opportunities in our research laboratories equipped with high technology machinery-equipment within our Department. Necessary attempts are made by our faculty members for our students to receive education in their educational fields in abroad, before and after graduation in our country. In addition, our students are provided with training opportunities abroad within the scope of Exchange Programs such as Erasmus, Farabi, and Mevlana.
In addition to the training and research activities of our faculty members at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels, they serve as the chairman or member in various boards and commissions such as our Faculty's Administrative Duties and Academic Encouragement Regulation, Supervision and Appeals Committee, Clinical Research Ethics Committee, Animal Experiments Local Ethics Committee, Environmental Ethics Committee, Bologna Coordination Commission, Scientific Publications Evaluation Board, Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator. Our faculty members also participate in training on safe drug use organized by pharmacists, physicians, and the public by institutions and organizations such as the Turkish Pharmacists' Association Pharmacy Academy, Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists, and Mersin Provincial Health Directorate. In addition, our faculty members work as editors, assistant editors, or referees in various national and international journals, and as moderators, panelists, or referees in projects supported by TÜBİTAK, TÜSEB, the European Union, and various universities.
