Faculty of Fisheries consists of three departments namely as basic aquatic sciences, aquaculture and fish capture and processing but the faculty is represented as one program called fisheries graduate program in the academic structuring of Institute of Applied Science at Mersin University. In the fisheries graduate program, teaching and research activities towards the postgraduate qualification have been continuing since 1996 but the doctor of philosophy teaching and research have been available since 2003 through the fisheries graduate program. This program aimes at upbringing the fisheries engineers and academic personel equipped with basic knowledge regarding to fisheries sector and those who could think analytically and are able to put forward practical solutions to the proplems of fisheries sector. Through this program students would be able to gain the ability of identifying and solving the problems with an interdciplinary approach by taking the compulsory and elective courses both from the subject portfolio in fisheries graduate program related to basic aquatic sciences, aquaculture and fish capturing and processing technology and other subject portfolios of related postgraduate programs.
