Biology Doctoral Program
Department of Biology was founded in 1992 and the education started at
the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the academic year of 1992. A four-year B.Sc
degree is given as well as M.Sc and Ph.D degrees.
The aim of the department of biology is to train biologists, equipped
with the level of knowledge and skills, in the fields of both theoretical and
applied biology. The students of department of biology can provide service in
educational institutions, if they acquire the necessary pedagogical formation.
In addition to the compulsory courses, the education plan of the department
includes some elective courses as well.
The students who successfully complete the education program are given
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.
The graduates of the biology department can be appointed as a biology
teacher on condition that the student passes the Public Personnel Selection
Examination (KPSS) held by the Ministry of Education. Graduates can also work
at the institutions of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the
General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, food and
medicine industry, aquaculture and pest control services,quality control and
r&d labs.
The department has Plant Physiology, Animal Physiology, Molecular
Biology, Microbiology, Animal Genetics, Zoology, Genetics and Systematic
Zoology research labs. Students complying with the requirements of Erasmus
program find an opportunity to gain experience, skills and knowledge in
European Universities.
