The event titled “Occupational Health and Safety in Local Governments,” organized by the Silifke Municipality Human Resources and Training Directorate, was held at the Silifke Municipality Cultural Center. The program, which began at 10:00 a.m., was also attended by the Mayor of Silifke, Dr. Mustafa Turgut.

Academicians specializing in occupational health and safety who came from outside the city contributed to the event. The academicians provided comprehensive information to municipal personnel on topics such as the legal framework of occupational health and safety, risk analysis, emergency management, and a safe working culture. Participants also had the opportunity to examine sample practices regarding how occupational safety applications in local governments can be made more effective.

In his opening speech, Mayor Dr. Mustafa Turgut emphasized that the safety of employees is of utmost importance, stating, “We continue our efforts to ensure that our personnel perform their duties under healthy and safe conditions. I believe that such trainings will make significant contributions to our working environment.”

“Occupational Health and Safety Workshop in Local Governments” Hosted by Erdemli Municipality

On September 30, 2025, Erdemli Municipality in Mersin hosted the “Occupational Health and Safety Workshop in Local Governments.” The event took place at Talat Göktepe Nature Park and brought together occupational health and safety personnel from district municipalities, staff from provincial and district health directorates, academics from Mersin University and Tarsus University, as well as expert teams from Mersin Metropolitan Municipality.

The workshop provided a platform to discuss ideas and recommendations for the effective and sustainable implementation of occupational health and safety practices within local governments.

Key topics included accident prevention, risk assessment, the use of personal protective equipment, emergency management, and regulatory compliance. Expert-led presentations combined theoretical insights with practical examples, offering participants a comprehensive learning experience.

Erdemli Municipality Deputy Mayors Hasan Gubaroğlu and Abdülkadir Altunçiçek also attended the workshop, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to workplace safety.

Within the scope of the İŞKUR “Workforce Adaptation Program,” on September 22, 2025, between 16:00 and 17:00, a “Occupational Health and Safety Training” was delivered to 31 İŞKUR personnel by Center Director Prof. Dr. Zeki YARAR at the Prof. Dr. Uğur ORAL Cultural Center.

Under the coordination of the Mersin Akdeniz District Directorate of National Education and with the support of the Mersin University Occupational Health and Safety Application and Research Center, the project titled “STEM-Based Space and Aviation Activities: From the Mediterranean to the Sky,” carried out within the scope of the “TÜBİTAK 4004–Nature Education and Science Schools Support Program,” was held between June 16–20, 2025 at the Prof. Dr. Uğur ORAL Cultural Center.
