School of Foreign Languages Professional Development Unit Job Descriptions
General Purpose
The Professional Development Unit operates to develop the professional knowledge, skills, and pedagogical competencies of academic staff; to promote innovative teaching methods; and to conduct studies aimed at improving the quality of teaching.
Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination
Preparing an annual professional development plan in line with the strategic goals of the school.
Planning and coordinating workshops, seminars, conferences, and workshops to be held throughout the academic year.
Supporting holistic development processes by collaborating with other units (assessment and evaluation, material development, program development, etc.).
Professional Development Activities
Conducting regular needs assessment surveys to identify faculty members' needs.
Organizing training programs in areas such as teaching methods, assessment and evaluation techniques, technology integration, student motivation, and classroom management.
Ensuring the sharing of good practice examples (e.g., "Teaching Showcase" or "Best Practices" sessions).
Preparing orientation and mentoring programs for new faculty members.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Preparing feedback forms and evaluation reports to measure the effectiveness of professional development activities.
Regularly reporting participation rates in activities and their impact on teaching processes.
Providing continuous improvement recommendations using the obtained data.
Resources and Sharing
Creating a "Professional Development Sharing Space" containing academic and pedagogical resources (articles, book summaries, digital tool guides, etc.).
Encouraging faculty members' research and publication activities; organizing informative sessions on these topics.
Informing faculty members about national and international professional development opportunities (webinars, conferences, certification programs, etc.).
Reporting and Communication
Preparing a unit report on the activities and participant feedback at the end of each semester.
Presenting the results of the activities to the School Board of Directors.
Promoting the activities conducted through the website, newsletter, or posters.
Unit Structure
Unit Coordinator: Responsible for planning, executing, and reporting professional development activities.
Unit Members: Play an active role in the planning, implementation, resource development, and evaluation processes.
Advisory Team (optional): Expert support may be obtained from other departments or external stakeholders as needed.
