Dr. Günseli Bobuş Alkaya, a faculty member in the Food Processing Department at Mersin University’s Vocational School of Technical Sciences , discussed the realities of food on Nil RTV.

Dr. Günseli Bobuş Alkaya, a Food Engineer and faculty member in the Food Processing Department at our vocational school, appeared as a guest on the live program "Life and More with Edlan Bostancı" (*Edlan Bostancı ile Hayata Dair*) on Nil RTV. The episode, which aired on Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 PM, addressed topics such as food safety and the prevalence of misinformation regarding healthy nutrition.
The discussion focused on common nutritional myths found on social media, the importance of food literacy, and how to read food labels. Dr. Alkaya highlighted common, often unintentional, mistakes made in our kitchens—explaining, with the support of scientific data, the risks of cross-contamination from washing raw meat and poultry, proper refrigerator storage conditions, and the hidden dangers associated with home-canned foods.
Furthermore, Dr. Alkaya emphasized the need to raise public awareness about food waste. She also touched upon the panels organized by our department for World Food Day (October 16), which proved highly effective in fostering greater awareness.
