An Interview with One of Us: Cold Chain and Life

The Mersin University Technical Sciences Vocational School, Department of Electrical and Energy, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program, held an event titled "Cold Chain and Life" on May 6, 2026, as part of its "One of Us" interview series. The event featured Aydın Koçer (GÜRKAR Refrigeration), a seasoned professional from the sector and a 2012 graduate, who met with the students. The interview, moderated by Department Head Lecturer Kader METİN, addressed the following questions:

- What is the cold chain? The following topics were discussed:

- The importance of the cold chain in daily life,

- The relationship between the cold chain and life,

- The stages of the cold chain from production to consumption,

- The consequences of cold chain disruption (food safety, economy, environment),

- The stages of cold storage construction,

- The main refrigeration technologies used in cold storage facilities and transport vehicles (compressor types, fluids, chiller systems, IoT-based monitoring, etc.),

- Temperature and humidity control,

- The impact of smart refrigeration systems, IoT sensors, and remote monitoring technologies on cold chain safety,

- The most common problems encountered in the field as an HVAC and refrigeration technician,

- Current technologies and career opportunities in the sector.

Following a question-and-answer session and interaction, tea and pastries were served to the participants.

Our students gained professional knowledge and also had the opportunity to listen to the success stories of our graduates in the sector. The indispensable role of the cold chain in every aspect of our lives, from food safety to pharmaceutical transportation, from agriculture to logistics, was once again emphasized. We thank Aydın Koçer for this valuable sharing and inspiring conversation, and all the participants and our students for attending the event.

The cold chain is not just a technology; it is the continuation of life. ❄️
