1. General information on master of science (MSc) degree program in Pharmaceutical Technology

    Pharmaceutical technology MSc Program was established in 2002. Department of Pharmaceutical Technology is one of two departments in Division of Biopharmaceutics at Mersin University, Faculty of Pharmacy.

    The M.S. in pharmaceutical technology with emphasis in pharmaceutics and cosmetics deals with the science of dosage form design and embraces all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity into a pharmaceutical or cosmetic product that can be safely and effectively used by patients.

3. Entry Requirements

    Privilage will be given to pharmacy graduates. However, the graduates with certain basic knowledge and skills from other fields (e.g. biomedical and bioengineers, chemical engineers, phsyicians, veterinary doctors, dentists) will be allowed to enter the program conditionally. The probation is to take certain undergrate level courses for a year (Scientific Prep Class) and to complete them with success. GRE (ALES)/quantitative (SAY)  and foreign language exam (YDS) scores should be as required by Mersin University Senate and Board of Graduate Institute of Medicine. 

4. Objectives of The Program:

    The main objectives of the program are to help pharmacists and other health professionals  to improve their skills and knowledge on development of drug and cosmetic delivery systems, quality control tests, radiopharmaceuticals, bioavailability, bioequivalence studies, biotechnological products, and pharmacokinetics. 

5. Qualification Requirements For Graduation

   MSc degree program is two year long. A student can get for a year of extension. those completed coursework of 21 credits with success can start working on his thesis. A thesis based upon experimental work in the general area of pharmaceutics/cosmetics is required. Prior to the student’s thesis defense, the student must have a minimum of one completed manuscript ready for submission to a referred journal.

6. Exams and Evaluation

     Final grade for each course is calculated by adding %40 of midterm exam/term paper (project) grade to %60 of the final exam grade. As to the MSc thesis, the student defence the thesis work orally in presence of 3 academic jury members (two from the department and one from outside the university). Upon passing this oral exam successfully, and submiting the thesis work in written format according to the rules set by the Institute, the student graduates from the program and then, is given the title of "MSc in pharmaceutical technology".  

7. Occupational Profile of Graduates

   Graduates of this MSc program can find a job in pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry. They can also work for legislative duties at Ministry of Health. Graduates can study further for PhD degree. They can continue their scientific career at academic setting as a staff member.
