WITHIN THE SCOPE OF OUR FACULTY'S CAREER DAYS ACTIVITIES, A CONFERENCE TITLED “WHAT FOR THE HISTORY OF PHARMACY” WAS HELD WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF RESEARCHER MERT SANDALCI AS A SPEAKER. 

 

On Tuesday, December 27th, as part of the Career Days organized by our Faculty, a conference titled “The Significance of Pharmacy History” was convened, featuring Mert Sandalcı, a distinguished researcher, as a keynote speaker. In attendance were the esteemed Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Necmiye Canacankatan, esteemed faculty members, and students, all gathered at the distinguished Prof. Dr. Uğur Oral Cultural Center. The event commenced with the rendition of our National Anthem, followed by a moment of silence. Subsequently, the audience was acquainted with Mert Sandalcı's notable contributions and achievements. During his discourse, Mert Sandalcı expounded on the intrinsic artistic essence intertwined with each facet of the pharmacy profession. He explicated his unwavering dedication to delving into the annals of pharmacy history, underscoring the arduous pursuit culminating in his current scholarly standing.

 

According to Mert Sandalcı, understanding the history of pharmacy is of utmost importance. It enables us to acknowledge the responsibility associated with practicing in the regions where our professional history is rooted. Moreover, it facilitates the establishment of a universal professional culture with colleagues across the globe, allowing for the sharing of common knowledge and the implementation of timely and rational interventions in our own country. Additionally, a comprehensive understanding of our professional history equips us to promptly and accurately identify professional challenges and devise suitable solutions, considering the cyclical nature of historical patterns.

 

Mert Sandalcı emphasized the insufficiency of existing resources to properly document the history of pharmacy. He stressed the importance of accessing a comprehensive collection of sources related to the history of pharmacy and highlighted the significance of the historical documents and photographs he has obtained. Sandalcı underscored the unique stories and importance of these resources for future pharmacists.

Mert Sandalcı elaborated on the contents of his collection, specifically focusing on the documents related to pharmacy during his address. Additionally, he imparted insights into his experiences and detailed the conversations he engaged in with pharmacists and their relatives during his visits, all of which provided valuable learnings for our students.

 

The conference, which garnered the interest of our students, came to an end following the presentation of flowers and a plaque to Mert Sandalcı by Prof. Necmiye Canacankatan, the Dean of our Faculty.
