Two Patent Applications Have Been Submitted To The Intellectual Property Rights Board.

The Intellectual Property Rights Board of Mersin University (MEÜ), coordinated by the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), convened on February 25, 2026. The meeting evaluated the applications to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for the inventions titled “Electrochemically Active Membrane Bioreactor System Containing Copper Deposit Conductive Membrane” and “Method for the Production of Bioactive Phosphate Glass from Waste Tomato Stem Ash”.


The meeting, chaired by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hakan Öztürk, took place in the meeting hall of the MEÜ Advanced Technology Education Research and Application Center (MEİTAM). Board members Prof. Dr. Seyhan Şahan Fırat, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, Prof. Dr. Suphan Karaytuğ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuncay Turan Turaboğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Uca, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. [Name missing] were present. The event was attended by Fahri Özsungur, TTO Coordinator Abdi Kurt, and Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Officer Ramazan Duman.


The groundbreaking innovative invention in wastewater treatment technology, titled "Electrochemically Active Membrane Bioreactor System Containing Copper Deposit Conductive Membrane," by Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge and researcher Dr. Zelal Işık from the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, offers advantages such as "fouling control, antibacterial effect, chemical savings, and nitrogen removal." The invention, which is also applicable to industry, will be used in areas such as urban wastewater treatment plants, industrial wastewater treatment, reuse and advanced treatment systems for food, textile, metal, and chemical industries, and biological treatment units with high fouling potential.


The event was also attended by faculty members from the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüdaverdi Arslan, and Dr. Zelal Işık. Zelal Işık's invention, titled "Method for Producing Bioactive Phosphate Glass from Waste Tomato Stem Ash," focuses on transforming agricultural organic waste into value-added biomaterials, aiming for zero waste and a low carbon footprint. The invention will also provide advantages such as sustainable recycling, low energy consumption, chemical savings, and in-situ conversion.


It was decided at the meeting that the evaluation of the patent applications would be presented to the University's Board of Directors.
